Home Hide Cottage Birds & Wildlife Fishing Arthur Ransome & Boating Booking Booking

Hide Cottage is ideal for those who love to fish, and their partners who might not! The large double glazed windows allow the requisite interest to be shown, from the warmth of the log burner and comfort of the sofa.

For the fisher the River Thurne provides excellent sport and is renowned for the size of it’s Pike, two of which have weighed in at 42lb and 36lb. The river also supports excellent stocks of Bream, Perch, Roach, Tench Rudd, Ruff and Eels with large catches being recorded on this exceptionally quiet stretch of the broads. Potter Heigham bridge keeps 95% of the cruisers at bay and being after the turning for Candle Dyke, means that you are untroubled by those heading up to Hickling or Horsey.

The cottage is well equipped for those fishing, with hard standing for chairs, a bait fridge, tackle shed and an outdoor light. A record book is maintained in the cottage to record catches, together with a tide table to calculate the best time to fish (usually slack water). The closed season is 15th March to 15th June.

Laithams in Potter Heigham (1.2 miles walking / 3.5 miles by car) is quite simply a fisher’s paradise and stocks a full range of bait and tackle.
